I gave an interview to the Indianapolis Star newspaper in the aftermath of the cold-blooded assassination of Charlie Kirk, the popular conservative influencer, founder of TurningPoint USA, and ally of President Trump. (See the IndyStar article here).

Beyond polarization and the splitting into absolute good and evil

This murder is as senseless and horrific as the assassination in June of State Rep. Melissa Hortman, the former Democratic speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives, and her husband.

Mentioning both assassinations together is vital so that we keep front of mind that extremism turning to violence is something people on both the liberal and the conservative side are susceptible to. This will help us develop empathy (feeling with another) for the pain not only we but “the other side” also feels, and allows us in a second step to choose a compassionate response to that pain.
