Matthias Beier Op-Ed Column in The Indianapolis Star:
Lt. Gov. Candidate Micah Beckwith shrinks God into his image to demonize others, impose theocracy
The Indianapolis Star newspaper published my opinion column today, which provides an in-depth analysis of the dangerous misuse of religion by a poster child of Trump evangelicals running for office: Micah Beckwith, the Republican candidate for Indiana lieutenant governor, the second highest-ranking office in the state. Beckwith is representative of the weaponization of religion happening across the country. This analysis easily transfers to many other U.S. states where self-aggrandizing Trump evangelical candidates have organized to run for office to establish theocracy. Ironically, in this scheme, Trump is only a useful pawn suitable because of shared omnipotent designs.
The Op-Ed Column is titled “Micah Beckwith shrinks God into his image to demonize others, impose theocracy.”
The column begins with: “Micah Beckwith's vision can be captured in the slogan “Theocracy is coming to Indiana,” an adaptation of the famous line from Leonard Cohen’s song Democracy, ‘Democracy is comin’ to the U.S.A.’”

Another Indianapolis Star article today quoted my analysis of Beckwith's dangerous labeling of Democrats as possessed with a 'demonic' "Jezebel spirit," a deeply misogynistic and racial slur. Beckwith has advocated for killing people possessed by demons in his public comments (see screenshot below).
