Trump tricked the country with fear. Absolute, irrational fear. He used the age-old playbook of the cunning serpent in Gen. 3, suggesting everything is bad. Then he posed as the only possible savior from this inflated malaise. The votes he got were the fruit people picked in a spell of fear in order to temporarily reduce the artificially manufactured levels of absolute existential anxiety he himself had induced. Only the cultivation of trust will stem this tide of fear.
